Hip Ink Update: It’s FINALLY Vacation Time!
November 8, 2011 § 1 Comment
After a LOOONG time of waiting, it’s finally vacation time here at Hip Ink (vacation in the summer – not in this industry!).
This year, it’s a cruise in the Western Caribbean and a few days at Disney to appease the kids. Hopefully it will include my toes in the sand, lots of time in the ocean, tons of cuddles with the kids and a whole lot of fruity drinks.
I’m also hoping it will include something else: Inspiration.
A while back I posted about how much travel inspires me when it comes to creating invitations. Sounds strange right?
There is something about being somewhere other than the same old place looking at the same old things – artists have been drawing inspiration from their travels since the first caveman drew in a cave that didn’t belong to him
There is something about the unexpected colour combinations, the foreign architecture, the beautiful people, the warm spirit of a place…when my head hits the pillow at night I find my mind is spinning with the sights and sounds of the day. And I wouldn’t want it any other way!
But this time is different. This time I’m ready to document it – I’ve got my camera, my iPad, notebooks – I’m ready to actually take all those inspirations and grab the before they fade. To figure out exactly how to incorporate them into my upcoming work. It’s something I’ve never tried before, because I tend to think it’s time that I should be leaving “work” behind.
But I’ve realized that while creating is my work, it’s also my passion, and there is no need to leave *that* behind!
In the meantime, I’m not leaving y’all hanging! Tomorrow is going to be a special “Workshop Wednesday” update/sneak peek and then while I’m gone (beginning Thursday), I’ll be re-posting our Top 10 most viewed blog posts from the last year+.
Another great reason to re-post some of our most popular topics? Last weekend we hit a milestone – 40,000 views on The Invitation Blog.
